About Songzanlin Monastery
The Songzanlin Monastery in Shangri-La, also known as the Little Potala Palace, is a cultural must-visit in the Western region.
This Tibetan Buddhist temple complex is the largest of its kind in the region and offers a glimpse into Tibetan culture and religious practices. With stunning architecture, colorful murals, and a serene atmosphere, Songzanlin Monastery is a great place to immerse yourself in the spiritual side of Shangri-La. Don't miss the chance to walk around Lamuyangcuo Lake for some breathtaking views and a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The monks who live in and around the monastery are usually open for a chat if you speak any Chinese but please ask for permission before taking photos.
the monastery's main entrance is about 2-3km south of the monastery itself and for 20 or so rmb more, your ticket will include a bus that'll take you to the gate itself and back.
In general I'd suggest taking it - the path is currently under renovation making it a less than ideal walk up.
