The Kritsa gorge starts near the village of Kritsa. It is an impressive gorge with towering rock walls, geological formations, Mediterranean vegetation.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the gorge is its changing scenery.
The hike begins in a relatively open area with olive groves and wildflowers, gradually leading into a narrower passage where the canyon walls come so close together that you may need to climb over rocks and squeeze through tight spaces.
The hike through Kritsa gorge is a circular route and the length of the hike is about 6km and takes 2-3 hours. The path is marked with red dots and arrows.
The hike isn't physically challenging if you're in decent shape although there are some places where you must do a little climbing up and down. Don't forget to bring hiking boots and enough water!
Good to know
Never walk in gorges while it is raining or even if it is about to rain. Although the danger of sudden flooding is not great, there is always the possibility of falling rocks. Also the goats can provide rock falling.
