Ultimate Alaska Packing List

  1. Camera Gear - You're visiting Alaska, the one thing you'll for sure want to bring with you is your best camera and extra SD cards. If you're here for wildlife, make sure to bring a zoom lens, and if you're here for some adventurous tours then you'll want to bring a GoPro or other action camera.

  2. Binoculars - If you're planning to travel through some of the National Parks, I highly recommend bringing a scope or set of binoculars if you don't have a zoom lens.

  3. Casual & Outdoor Clothes - Bring thermal base layers, a wind resistant rain coat, and comfortable hiking shoes, even if you're visiting in the summer. Visits to glaciers can be especially chilly, so you won't want to forget a hat and gloves either. Don't worry about wearing nice clothes, most people in Alaska dress for comfort & the outdoors.

  4. Waterproof Bags - Perfect to store your items if you go on a wildlife boat ride or whitewater rafting tour.

  5. Backpack - If you plan any day trips or tours, you'll want a small backpack or day bag to carry your items with.

  6. Sunscreen - Because the sun sits so low on the horizon, it's been scientifically proven that the rays directly hit a larger percentage of your body. Therefore we always recommend reapplying sunscreen as often as recommended.

  7. Sleep Mask - In the Summer, Alaska stays bright just about all night. If your hotel or Airbnb doesn't have adequate shades then it can be really hard to sleep.

  8. Mosquito Repellant - There's a running joke in Alaska that in the Summer the mosquitos can carry you away if you aren't careful. Mosquito repellant is a must, and I recommend bringing any kind of repellant that works best for you.

  9. Reusable Water Bottle - Tap water in Alaska is safe to drink, but this isn't why I recommend bringing a reusable water bottle. If walking on a glacier is on your Alaska bucketlist, then you'll want to bring your water bottle to fill it up with some fresh glacier water! (the best tasting water we've ever had

  10. Bear Spray - You won't be able to actually bring this last item with you (not allowed in checked luggage or carry ons in flights) but if you plan to head out on some hikes you'll want to rent or buy some while you're here.
