The Gorner Gorge in Zermatt is a natural wonder shaped by thousands of years of glacial meltwater carving through the rock. Just a short 30-minute walk from the village, this dramatic canyon features steep rock walls, turquoise waters and wooden walkways that allow you to explore its depths up close.

The gorge is made of striking greenish serpentinite rock, giving it a unique appearance. As you follow the wooden paths and bridges, you’ll pass rushing waterfalls, deep pools and narrow rock formations sculpted by the force of the Gornera River. The walkway provides safe access while still letting you feel the raw power of nature around you.

The gorge is at its most dramatic in late summer and autumn when the water flow is at its peak. It’s a refreshing and easy walk, making it a great short excursion from Zermatt, whether you're looking for a peaceful nature escape or a stunning photography spot.

Seraina’s Tip: If you're up for a bit more adventure, continue beyond the gorge to Blatten, a charming hamlet with traditional wooden houses and a cozy mountain restaurant. It’s a great place to take in the alpine atmosphere before heading back to Zermatt.
