I WANNA MOVE HERE, IT IS PARADISE!
Fitzroy Island is an absolute gem just a short 45-minute ferry ride from Cairns. The ferry costs around $89 for a return trip, and it’s totally worth it for the slice of paradise waiting for you on the other side. If you’re keen to make the most of your day, grab the early ferry – it leaves you with plenty of time to soak up all the island has to offer. I'd also recommend checking their accomodation offers/ sales online, because we somehow snagged SUCH a cheap deal to stay overnight in one of the beachfront appartments!
There’s heaps to do, so pack your swimmers, a towel, etc. The beaches here are stunning – Nudey Beach (don’t worry, it’s not what it sounds like) is an absolute showstopper with its soft white sand and crystal-clear water, perfect for a swim or snorkel. It's where everyone takes their Instagram photos...
Tthe coral reefs just offshore are incredible – think vibrant fish, turtles, and colourful corals. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a friendly stingray gliding by.
If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, the Summit Track is a solid hike with breathtaking views at the top. It’s a bit of a climb, but trust me, the views are worth every step. For a more chilled-out walk, try the Secret Garden track – it’s lush and shaded, with loads of tropical vibes.
We topped off our day with a cheeky drink at the bar, because SAY LESS xx
The island isn’t pet-friendly, but it’s family-friendly, couple-friendly, and solo-traveller-friendly. Whether you’re snorkelling, hiking, or just lazing on the beach with a good book, Fitzroy Island is the perfect tropical escape. You’ll be back on the ferry at the end of the day feeling sun-kissed, salty, and bloody stoked.
