Matsumoto Castle, also known as Matsumoto-jō Castle, is a historic Japanese castle located in Nagano Prefecture. Built in the late sixteenth century, it boasts original wooden interiors and external stonework, making it a National Treasure of Japan. The castle's rich history includes being seized by various clans during the Sengoku period and later serving as the seat of the Matsumoto Domain under the Tokugawa shogunate. Despite facing demolition in the Meiji era, the castle was saved thanks to local efforts. Today, visitors can explore its impressive keep and surrounding structures, offering a glimpse into Japan's feudal past.
