The Pizol Five Lake Trail is an incredibly rewarding and challenging hike located Eastern Switzerland. On this 10 km trail full of spectacular alpine landscapes, hikers traverse through five stunning alpine lakes, including Wildsee, Schottensee, Schwarzsee, Baschalvasee, and Wasserwald at Furt. With a highest point of 2500 meters, prepare for unpredictable changeable weather! Although the terrain is both hilly and steep, effort is well-rewarded with stunning views and the incredible feeling of accomplishment after reaching the end. This is a must-do for experienced hikers of all ages, especially during summer or fall!
HIKE DETAILS:
Start: Maffia - Pizolhütte. You need to take the cable car from Wangs (Pizol Wings cable car) then 2 chairlifts to get to the start of the trail.
The hike is 10 km long with 430 meter of elevation gain. It can take approximately 4-5 hours, depends on your pace. It is not a technical hike but busy especially on weekends. Despite I 100% recommend to visit this place and hike to the lakes since they are absolutely beautiful.
Sad Fact: in 2019 Swiss people held a funeral to Pizol glacier (located at 2700m) that sadly melted away. The glacier lost of its mass (90%) that it certainly cannot be called a glacier anymore. Scientist assume that since 1850, approximately 500 Swiss glacier disappeared but only 50 had a name. Ever since Pizol was the first glacier that was very well studied.
