The Great North of Scotland Railway, a small but mighty Scottish railway company, chugged its way through the north-east of the country from 1854 to 1922. Starting off with a 39-mile stretch from Aberdeen to Huntly, it eventually expanded to cover over 226 route miles and connected passengers to Inverness and beyond. Known for transporting goods like fish and whisky, as well as being the Royal Family's go-to for trips to Balmoral Castle, this railway was a key player in the region's transportation scene. After joining forces with the London and North Eastern Railway in 1923, its main line still stands today as part of the Aberdeen to Inverness Line.
