A jewel in the middle of the Alvão Natural Park, is Lamas d' Olo, a village in the municipality of Vila Real. As soon as you arrive, you will notice the granite houses where many of the houses still have thatched roofs. The strong rural image of these old houses is complemented by the canastros spread throughout the village that are worth a visit.
In addition to the Alvão Natural Park, which surrounds it, Lamas d'Olo is surrounded by marshes and cultivated fields with their own characteristics. Let yourself be enchanted by this example of rural Portugal and observe the practice of irrigation, which allows pastures all year round. Even today, in fact, animals play an important role in this land, with pastoralism being a common activity.
On a visit to this village, observe daily life that imitates the traditions of other times. Immerse yourself in nature and get ready to follow one of the various hiking trails identified and signposted here. Water is also an inseparable element of the life of this small town: nearby you will find two dams – Cimeira and Fundeira do Alvão - with two reservoirs from which you can see the high peaks of Alvão and Marão. The Lamas d' Olo Viewpoint and the Barragem Cimeira Picnic Park are also mandatory points of passage! Further away, but just a few kilometers away, one of the largest waterfalls in Portugal is worth a visit: Fisgas do Ermelo.
