Altun Ha is an ancient Mayan city located in Belize, about 50 kilometers north of Belize City. It's a pretty cool place with ruins that cover about 8 square kilometers. The site wasn't discovered until 1963 when some locals stumbled upon a fancy jade pendant while digging around. Since then, archaeologists have been digging and restoring the site to learn more about its history. One of the most famous structures at Altun Ha is the "Temple of the Masonry Altars," which is 16 meters high and even made it onto the logo of Belize's popular beer brand, Belikin. Overall, Altun Ha is a fascinating glimpse into the ancient Mayan civilization and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.
