The Zytglogge in Bern is this incredible medieval tower that's seen it all since the early 13th century – from guard duty to prison time and even clock-watching. Over its 800 years, it's had a few makeovers, but it still stands strong as Bern's original symbol and the city's oldest monument!
The start attraction of the tower is its 15th-century astronomical clock. Every hour, something special unfolds: the clock starts chiming and medieval figurines make their appearances, with dancing bears, playful jesters, and crowing roosters delighting the public daily.
You can actually sign up for a public tour of the Zytglogge: where you will delve into the inner workings of the old clock, closely observe the enchanting figurines, and gain insights into the rich history and diverse roles played by the historic clock tower. The tour ends with 130 steps up to the the monument's viewing platform. The payoff is a splendid panoramic view of Bern from above!
You can also combine this tour with the UNESCO Stroll through the Old City.
