If you really want to camp at some of Manitoba’s Provincial Parks, but do not want to sacrifice your comfort, Manitoba Provincial Parks offer the flexibility to stay in a yurt.

So what really is a yurt ?!

A yurt is a traditional circular, tent-like structure that is used as a glamping (glamorous camping) option. Yurts have been used by nomadic people in Central Asia for centuries, but in recent years, they've become popular in Canada as unique, cozy, and more sustainable alternatives to traditional tent camping, cabins or lodges. Manitoba Provincial Parks yurts are equipped with skylights ( to let in fresh air and sunshine), windows, electricity, heaters and lanterns with a wood floor and a lockable door opening onto a porch or patio.

In Manitoba, yurts are commonly found in provincial parks, National Parks, or private campgrounds. Yurts can also be found across other Canadian provinces' Provincial and National Parks. Visit Manitoba Going to Camp Website to find out all the available yurts in Manitoba Provincial Parks under the tab "Comfort Camping"

and visit Parks Canada Website to find out all the available yurts in National Parks across all Canadian provinces under the tab "Parks Canada Accommodations"

Manitoba Yurts typically feature:

  • Circular design: The shape helps distribute heat efficiently, making them comfortable year-round even though they are only available during camping season (late May - early September).

  • Wooden frame: Usually built with a sturdy wood frame and covered with weather-resistant fabric or insulated material.

  • Basic amenities: Inside, you'll find comfortable bedding ( the one we stayed had a full size mattress and a twin bunk bed) , electric heaters, electricity, rustic log dining table and 4 chairs, small storage cabinet, futon couch, mirror, broom, front porch, outdoor picnic table & fireplace, and a keyless lock for the yurt itself.

Manitoba Provincial Parks yurts Do Not come with kitchenettes, fridges, stoves, or cooking utensils, and cooking is not permitted inside a Manitoba Provincial Park yurt. There is a kitchen shelter on the yurt’s porch where you can cook.

Each yurt will accommodate 4 adults or a family of 5. You will find a picnic table and fire pit nearby your campsite.

  • Scenic locations: Many yurts are set in nature-rich areas like forests, near lakes, or in places with great hiking trails, providing a peaceful and immersive outdoor experience.

Yurts offer a more rustic experience than a hotel room but still provide comfort and protection from the elements, making them an excellent choice for those who want to experience nature in Manitoba while enjoying a bit of luxury.
