The Lavaux Express is a charming tourist train that meanders through the stunning Lavaux terraced vineyards, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
This is a fun and easy way to explore the terraced vineyards and breathtaking landscapes of Lavaux. If you prefer a more active day, you can do an e-Bike tour or hike through the area.
Where: start in Lutry or Cully, both near Lausanne along Lake Geneva
Website: www.lavauxexpress.ch • Book here
The Lavaux Express shuttle starts in Lutry or Cully, cute lakeside villages. They have sightseeing tours that loop through the vineyards, visiting tiny hillside villages (1h15). They also have a "Caveau" tour that includes wine tasting (2h).
We slightly prefer the Cully tour, but both are very nice.
The tour includes a free audio guide that you can access via your phone.
The tours run from April to October. The tour schedule varies by season, with more frequent service from early June to late September.
In general, tours leave from Lutry on Wed, Fri, and Sun. Tours leave from Cully on Tues, Thu, and Sat. Tours are mostly in the afternoon, lasting 1h15. Check the current schedule.
Tours do run in the rain, but may be cancelled due to bad storms.
The grape vines have leaves starting around mid May. My pictures here were taking the last weekend of May.
The leaves start to turn pretty fall colors in September during harvest time.
The Lavaux Express shuttle starts in either Lutry or Cully. You can reach these villages by car, train or boat.
The tour departs from Quai Gustave Doret, 1095 Lutry, a 10 min walk from the Lutry train station. 30 mins from Montreux, 1h from Geneva.
By car: There is a big parking lot directly next to the tour departure point. From Montreux, 25 mins by car.
The tour departs from Place d'Armes 16, 1096 Cully, a 7 min walk from the Cully train station.
By car: there are some parking spaces along the lake near the departure point and along Rte de Vevey. But these are limited to 2 hours. It is probably better to park at the Cully train station, which allows for longer parking times. From Montreux, about 25 mins. From Geneva, about 1 hour.
