This mountain train travels between the the top Grütschalp cable car and the Mürren village. It's a beautiful and easy way to reach the Mürren village, where you can access a variety of activities, hikes, and viewpoints.

The train travels 4.2 km in 11 mins.

Stops:

• Grütschalp - top of cable car

• Winteregg - restaurant and playground in middle of line

• Mürren BLM stop at north end of Mürren village.

💡Tip: To get the best views during the ride, sit next next to the windows facing the Lauterbrunnen valley (not the mountain side).

P.S This cable car will be renovated in 2026, which may mean closures and detours.

Typically you will buy a ticket that includes both the Grütschalp cable car and this mountain train, getting you the full journey to Mürren.

If you don't know what ticket you should buy, go to the counter and explain your plans so they will sell you the correct ticket.

Activities

Once in Mürren, you can simply wander the village and eat at a restaurant with a view.

Mürren also has a Via Ferrata, Paragliding, many hikes like the Northface Trail, and access to Schilthorn viewpoint higher up the mountain.

💡Tip: If only some of your group wants to hike, send the non-hikers on the train while the others hike to Mürren on the Mountain View trail. Meet up at Allmendhubel (end of trail) or Mürren for lunch.

Alternate return route: When you are done in Mürren, you can return the same way. Or if you want a different view on the way back, you can instead ride a cable car from Mürren down to Stechelberg in the valley. Then a bus back to Lauterbrunnen. Note that this alternative return route is not covered by the Jungfrau Travel Pass, Eurail, or Interrail passes.
