Wlotzkasbaken is an exciting holiday settlement along the Skeleton Coast of Namibia's Atlantic coast, halfway between Swakopmund and Hentiesbay. Founded as a holiday angling spot in the 1930s, today it has 106 houses all designed and built by their owners and is renowned for its unique type of settlement without fences or boundaries. The region also boasts extensive lichen colonies which are of ecological importance. This area is particularly popular during the holiday months of December and January when hundreds of visitors come to experience the abundance of fish and the famous 'Marterpfahl' angling festival between Christmas and New Year's Eve.
