Hot Spring
Hot Spring

This off-the-beaten-path hot spring is a West Iceland gem that few people ever visit. If you're looking for an authentic Iceland hot spring experience that is not loaded with people, this is certainly a great spot during any time of the year.
The literal translation of Guðrúnarlaug is "Guðrún's pool". The hot spring is named after the only main female protagonist in an Icelandic saga - Laxdæla Saga. The location is picturesque, especially with the small waterfall in the background.
Keep in mind that this pool is small but it can fit a few people. The temperature is around 100 degrees Fahrenheit. While it is clean, there is some algae around the sides and bottom, which can make it slippery. I recommend wearing water shoes in pools like this because they have better grip for slippery surafces.
The little hut is an area where you can change your clothes. There aren't any public showers in the hut
The pool is located in Laugar, Sælingsdalur in the Dalir region in northwest Iceland. It's a fairly easy drive from Reykjavík.
