Stand in awe of the waterfall of the Gods by visiting Goðafoss. According to legend, Þorgeir, the law speaker in the year 999, threw the statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall because Iceland was adapting Christianity as the official religion.
The horseshoe shape of the waterfall is a unique shape that adds to the beauty. You can see the waterfall from two sides, and you can even walk down to area that is much closer to waterfall than the normal viewing platform. Either side is lovely.
Goðafoss is one of the biggest waterfalls in Iceland. It runs through a 7,000 year old lava field that was formed by Trölladyngja volcano. The river that feeds this waterfall is Skjálfandafljót.
If you plan to visit during winter, make sure to bring microspikes because it can be very icy.
