Standing next to Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe, you will feel raw power and the rumble of 500 cubic meters of water per second plunging over the edge. It's an awe-inspiring site and it's incredible that this amount of water is constantly flowing from Vatnajökull, the largest ice cap in Europe, this waterfall and into the canyon.

You can view Dettifoss from either side (East and West). The East side is from Route 1 to HólsfjallavegurRoad. The west side is road 864. Personally, I like the west side but that side might be only accessible in the winter because it's a gravel road, and could have a lot of snow fall.

This waterfall has appeared in movies such as Prometheus in 2012 and Oblivion in 2013.
