Located in the Víðidalur valley, Kolugljúfur is a gorge that has been carved out by the Víðidalsá river over thousands of years. The canyon features towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and sparkling turquoise waters that will take your breath away. One of the highlights of Kolugljúfur is the Kolufoss waterfall, a beautiful cascade of water that falls over a series of steps and creates a mist that adds to the magic of the place. You can get up close and personal with the waterfall for an epic photo or video. According to local folklore, a giantess named Kola lived in the canyon and her daily tasks shaped the canyon, such as hunting salmon, cooking them, and sleeping. But the beauty of Kolugljúfur doesn't stop there. The canyon also features the charming Kolugljúfur bridge, a bridge that spans the river and offers stunning views of the canyon and waterfall. In addition to its natural beauty and historic significance, Kolugljúfur also offers a sense of peace and tranquility that is hard to find elsewhere. The area is relatively undiscovered by tourists, which means that visitors can enjoy a sense of solitude and quiet that is truly rare.
