This NY State Park is best known for its two glacial lakes, which are among the most deeply colored of all lakes in NY and are considered rare types of meromictic lakes (meaning their layers of water don't mix).
There's a ton to do in Green Lake's State Park.
The most popular hiking trail is the 3-mile loop around Green Lake. Along the way, you'll pass a sandy beach where you can go swimming during the summer, typically when lifeguards are on duty. This is the only place you're allowed to swim.
Rowboat, paddleboat, and kayak rentals are usually available. Because the park aims to preserve the unique clarity and delicate ecosystem of the lakes, private boats and watercraft are not allowed.
Both Green and Round Lakes are popular fishing spots. You could catch a variety of fish, including bass, trout, and perch.
The park also offers camping facilities, including campsites and cabins for longer stays.
When visiting, remember to respect the natural beauty of the park and follow the principles of Leave No Trace. It's also recommended to check the official New York State Parks website for the most current information about facilities, opening hours, and any potential restrictions.
