Calling all birdwatchers, wildlife photographers, and nature enthusiasts!
Montezuma Wildlife Refuge, nestled in the heart of New York State, is a natural sanctuary that's perfect for wildlife enthusiasts, nature lovers, and photographers.
This expansive refuge encompasses over 7,000 acres of diverse wetlands, forests, and grasslands, providing a haven for a wide array of migratory birds, mammals, and reptiles. With its strategic location along the Atlantic Flyway, Montezuma serves as a vital stopover for thousands of bird species during their seasonal migrations. Expect to see everything from herons, egrets, bald eagles, and other species of water fowl.
While you're there, you can explore the refuge's network of observation points and trails, which range from 0.2 miles to over 2 miles in length. If you don't feel like hiking, just hop in the car and follow The Wildlife Drive through the park to spot wildlife from behind the windshield.
Pro tip: Bring a camera with a zoom lens to get epic photos without approaching the wildlife.
