This quiet pond offers a secluded wilderness experience without having to dedicate time to a huge hike.

Connery Pond is a popular spot for wildlife watching, leaf peeping, paddling, and catching the sunrise. The hike from the trailhead literally takes about 5 minutes along a flat trail that leads to the waters edge with a view of Whiteface Mountain.

To get there, travel east on Route 86 toward Lake Placid. There's a large parking lot at a bridge over the Ausable River. You can park here or drive directly to the trail head via a dirt road just up ahead.

However, the dirt road is closed in the winter. And even when it's open, the road is narrow and there are only 2-3 parking spots at the trailhead, so parking in the lot on Route 86 is the best option. The trailhead is less than a mile down the dirt road.

If you want to bring your canoe or kayak, you have to carry it down the trail. You can access the water from the area by the path. Lands to the south and west are private property.

Motors are not allowed.

Always remember to Leave No Trace by packing out all of your trash, following signs and regulations, staying on the trail, and respecting wildlife. Common Loons frequent the water but be sure to give them their space, especially if a nest is nearby because they'll definitely attack you.
