Mount Wakefield, standing tall at 2058m, is often considered the heart of Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park. With stunning views from its summit on a clear day, it's a popular spot for climbers and hikers alike. This hike is EXTREMELY STEEP. It is one of the highest vertical gain we have done in a short hike. That being said, if you're okay with it being steep and slippery, it's not too bad seeing as how short it is to a good lookout spot. We did not hike the entire thing, we hiked about 1.5-2km in and it had a beautiful view. Full trail details below.
