🇬🇧 Many just walk past this small park with its music pavilion (built in 1913) but I think it's a really small oasis in the middle of city life! The music pavilion now hosts a little café and sometimes even concerts by the Vienna philharmony! I suggest you just stop for a quick coffee and watch the hustle and bustle on the Latin Bridge.

This place hasn't always been a park and actually has quite the tumultous history! After the foundation of Sarajevo, it served as area for public executions and got later turned into a horse trading market and hippodrome. After a mosque was built close to the market in 1544, it slowly turned into an educational and cultural center of Ottoman Sarajevo with a library and a madresa (Muslim high school) being built right next to it.

Only later, when the Austro-Hungarians came to power in Sarajevo was the square turned into a park with the music pavilion. However, you can still visit the archeological area west of the park where you can see the remains of the mosque and madresa.

🇩🇪 Viele gehen einfach an diesem kleinen Park mit seinem Musikpavillon (erbaut 1913) vorbei, aber ich finde, er ist eine wirklich kleine Oase inmitten des Stadtlebens! Der Musikpavillon beherbergt heute ein kleines Café und manchmal sogar Konzerte der Wiener Philharmoniker! Ich schlage vor, dass Sie einfach auf einen Kaffee anhalten und das Treiben auf der Lateinischen Brücke beobachten.

Dieser Ort war nicht immer ein Park und hat eine ziemlich bewegte Geschichte! Nach der Gründung Sarajevos diente er als Ort für öffentliche Hinrichtungen und wurde später in einen Pferdemarkt und ein Hippodrom umgewandelt. Nachdem 1544 in der Nähe des Marktes eine Moschee gebaut worden war, entwickelte er sich langsam zu einem Bildungs- und Kulturzentrum des osmanischen Sarajevo mit einer Bibliothek und einer Madresa (muslimisches Gymnasium), die direkt daneben gebaut wurden.

Erst später, als die Österreich-Ungarn in Sarajevo an die Macht kamen, wurde der Platz in einen Park mit einem Musikpavillon umgewandelt.
