🇬🇧 The Tvrdoš Monastery, built in the 15th century, is one of the oldest monasteries in Bosnia and Herzegovina – in fact, it is built on the foundations of a Roman church from the 4th century! The monks of Tvrdoš are most known for their wine knowledge and production and they have been making wine from the 15th century. So even during Ottman times, when alcohol was prohibited, the kind of had a special permission to still do their craft! The Tvrdoš wines are full-bodied and strong, they mostly plant Vranac, a right wine variety from the region, and Žilavka, the autochthonous Herzegovinian variety.

🇩🇪 Das Kloster Tvrdoš wurde im 15. Jahrhundert erbaut und ist eines der ältesten Klöster in Bosnien und Herzegowina - tatsächlich finden sich unter dem Kloster Fundamente einer römischen Kirche aus dem 4. Jh.! Die Mönche von Tvrdoš sind vor allem für ihre Weinproduktion bekannt. Seit dem 15. Jh., also sogar zu Zeiten der Osmanen, als Alkohol verboten war, hatten sie eine Sondererlaubnis, ihr Handwerk weiter auszuüben! Die Tvrdoš-Weine sind vollmundig und kräftig, die Mönche kultivieren hauptsächlich Vranac, eine Weinsorte aus der Region, und Žilavka, die autochthone herzegowinische Sorte.
