Berat Castle is the biggest fortification in Albania and dates back to the 4th century BC. It has been inhabited by various civilizations throughout history and now hosts a number of museums, churches, and other attractions. The castle complex is not abandoned but one of the beating hearts of the city and you have a wonderful view over the 1,000 windows from here.

Keep in mind though that Berat can be terribly hot. When we were there at the beginning of November, it was already around 35 degress at 9 in the morning which is really no pleasant temperature for a hike.
