Ófærufoss waterfall is a breathtaking multi-drop waterfall located in the South Region of Iceland. The falls' name translates to 'the impassable waterfall', and it truly lives up to its name, with a fast-moving river leading up to the two primary drops, making it impossible to easily cross. With a 40 meter (130 foot) height and a visually open landscape, this waterfall is a mesmerizing sight that you won't want to miss. The waterfall is particularly beautiful during the spring thaw, when visitors can admire its double arch that frames the second drop. Hiking is required to reach the waterfall, but the journey will be worth it - take a 4x4 drive to the edge of the Icelandic Highlands and explore one of nature's wonders!

From Road 1, take road 208 then road F208. This waterfall is only accessible with a 4x4 After driving a few kilometers on road 208, follow Fjallabaksleið nyrðri to Gjátindur which will take you straight to Eldgjá where the waterfall is. You will need about 25 kilometers on this road. Before arriving at your destination, you will see the car park.
