Maelifell is a stunning volcanic cone located in the highlands of South Iceland. Its vivid green colouration and unique shape make it stand out in a sea of black sands. Legend has it that Maelifell was once hidden under glaciers, but emerged 10,000 years ago at the end of the last Ice Age. It is also home to many pristine glacier rivers, making it a perfect place for a summer adventure! To get there, you’ll need a four-wheel-drive due to the river crossings and bumpy terrain. You can even do an epic hike across the Laugavegur multiday trek, past an array of magnificent sites including Maelifell. Get ready for a truly incredible experience!

It is a true emblem of the region, has become in recent years one of the favorite spots for photographers despite its difficult access along the F210 track.

You can only get there by 4x4. You have to take the F210 road to get there. It takes 1 hour round trip to climb to the top of the mountain. Scenes from Games of Strone were filmed there.
