Hallgrímskirkja is a Lutheran parish church located in Reykjavík, Iceland. At 74.5 metres tall, it is the largest church in Iceland and also one of the tallest structures in the whole country. It is known for its distinctively curved spire and side wings, having become an iconic symbol of Iceland's national identity. Constructed between 1945 and 1986, the church is named after Icelandic poet and cleric Hallgrímur Pétursson who wrote the Passion Hymns. Inside the church are two large pipe organs as well as a statue of Jesus donated by Einar Jónsson, and the church also includes an observation deck with views of Reykjavík and the surrounding mountains. Every hour the bells at the top of Hallgrímskirkja chime and can be heard throughout the city, adding to its beauty and grandeur.
