Hnausapollur, sometimes called Bláhylur is a maar located in the Iceland Highlands. It was formed when lava contacted groundwater during an eruption in 871 that spread ash over almost the entire island. The crater holds a stunning turquoise lake that is surrounded by vegetated brims and plenty of greenery - creating a beautiful sight for adventurers and landscape photographers alike. Visitors often travel to experience the Highland road Fjallabak Nyrðri in order to experience Hnausapollur. Here, they can take in its beauty, go fishing or even partake in a highland tour. With such striking visuals that are unique to Iceland, it is often visited by tourists from all around the world.
