Learn about small things that will help you travel through Slovenia
There is no Uber in Slovenia. Here, the “old school” taxis still work. If you will be staying at a hotel, you can ask reception for the contact of a local taxi company. For a more digital solution, you can use the app “Cameo” which works similarly to Uber - but there are only cars available in large cities.
Public parking is normally payable with the parking meter. You can download the app “Easy Park” as we suggested before as an alternative.
Please make sure you pay attention to where you park. The most common cause of fines here in Slovenia is parking.
If you need a transfer service from the airport, we recommend the companies GoOpti or Nomago. You can buy your ticket in advance or at the airport when you land (in this case, at a slightly higher price).
Card payments are widely accepted, especially in Ljubljana and other tourist places. In fact, most people pay for things using cards. Cash payment is also an option, though.
We do recommend having some cash with you when traveling to smaller villages, remote locations, or on the mountain huts (when hiking).
If you plan on doing any of the suggested activities such as rafting or any other tour, we recommend booking them in advance. Especially during the summer, they tend to sell out.
Keep in mind that every store and supermarket across the country closes on Sundays, with a couple of exceptions for small privately owned stores. Most restaurants open under regular working hours, though.
Here are a few interesting events that happen every year in Slovenia:
Open Kitchen - Every Friday from May to October in Pogačarjev trg
Pust - Every year at Carnival
Open-air cinema in the Ljubljana Castle - July/August - Check dates here
Christmas markets - December across Slovenia
To stay connected during your trip, you can buy a local SIM card or an eSIM. The local prepaid SIM cards we recommend the most for tourists are the ones from A1 or HoT. For eSIM, we recommend Airalo.

During the summer, you can go swimming at the seaside, in the lakes (including Lake Bled) and also in the Soča Valley. However, be prepared because the water in the Soča River is always cold. Even during the hottest months of the year, the temperatures don’t go above 15o C.
Swimming on the mountain lakes of the Triglav National Park is not allowed because they are part of a protected area.
