What to expect from your trip to Slovenia

Nature

Slovenia is famous for its natural landscapes, and you will quickly understand why. Almost 60% of the country’s territory is made of green and forests, which is why it is such an incredible destination for outdoor lovers. During your trip, you will have the chance to see some of the most special Slovenian landscapes including Lake Bled, the world-famous alpine lake with a picturesque church island in the middle.

History

Slovenia is a young country, being independent only since 1991. However, historical sites date back to medieval times such as the charming town of Ptuj and the many castles you can find throughout the country. If you are interested in more modern history, the Soča region was a very important front during World War I and it is a good place to start exploring. Ljubljana also holds a lot of marks from its socialist past, which is also very interesting to visit.

Culture

Slovenia has a very rich cultural background, with influence from medieval times, other Slavic countries, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Balkan region, and much more. Every year, several events take place here, such as Pust (the Slovenian celebration of Carnival) and Slovenian Culture Day, celebrated every February 8.

Active Experiences

For the adventurous souls, Slovenia is a massive playground. Whether hiking through the shepherd village of Velika Planina, experiencing the rush of adrenaline sports in Bovec, or pedaling your way through scenic cycling trails, we are certain you will find the right adventure for your style.

Food

Slovenia's culinary scene is a delightful fusion of flavors. Savor local delights like potica (a sweet nut roll) and štruklji (a rolling dough). For drinking, make sure you try local Slovenian wines. Slovenia is big in winemaking, with approximately one vineyard for every 70 people! The reason why you probably didn’t know this is because we drink most of the wine here.
