You might have seen us post photos from this magical forest many times.. we are obsessed with this park!! Spirea is located in Golden Ears Provincial Park in Maple Ridge, BC, and has many beautiful hiking trails, a lake and rivers throughout the park. If you’re looking to catch these beautiful light rays when you visit, there’s a number of factors you need to lookout for. We’ve included what to look for on this page!

  1. Visit in the Fall, Winter or early Spring as the temperatures have to be cold (around 0 C degrees or cooler in the morning) we have had the best light rays in December and January

  2. The light rays appear anytime from 9am-12pm (in the Spring it’s early and in the Winter it’s late)

  3. Make sure the humidity is 90% or higher in the morning (check the YR or Weather Network websites)

  4. Walk around the loop in Spirea as sometimes there can be rays in certain areas and not in other areas

  5. When checking the weather beforehand, search “Alouette Lake, Golden Ears Provincial Park” as this will be the most accurate weather reading
