Kintamani is an underrated spot! It's the ridgeline of the crater that surrounds Mount Batur, the famous volcano that people hike the most in Bali. Most people only visit to watch the sunrise over Mount Batur, Mount Abang and Mount Agung from the south-western edge of the ridgeline, and then leave a few hours later - but there's so much more to do than that!
The ridgeline is definitely a highlight, every single cafe and restaurant has an incredible view all day long (it's worth seeing the sunset as well as just the sunrise), but they also almost ALL have incredible food and drink. It's surprising how high the standard is, but they must just make a lot of money from the tourism!
But don't just visit the ridgeline, also go down into the crater! We went glamping for the first time down in the crater and it was such a lovely getaway, the windy roads are really fun to drive on and the view of the lake and mountains are beautiful. Apparently the local warungs also have really good fresh fish from the lake, we didn't get a chance to try it while we were there but we definitely will next time.
Two things that you need to know about Kintamani though:
the first is that it can be really f*king cold š especially in the dry season (March-November) and whenever the sun isn't that high - in the crater it was less cold but even in the early afternoon when we were driving around it was cold enough for a hoodie and sweatpants for sure - so make sure to bring some warmer clothing!
there's a lot of flies, especially down in the crater, and especially in the rainy season apparently - we went in the dry season, but there was still a decent amount of flies, apparently it's to do with there being lots of farms there. It wasn't the worst when we were there, but a little bit annoying, although they go at night, and there wasn't really any on the ridgeline, so we just went up there and avoided them! Still very worth visiting!
