There's no better spot to watch the sun rise over the mountains in Kintamani! The view from all the places along the Kintamani ridge are great, but Paperhills opens at 5:30AM on weekdays (and 6AM on weekends) so you'll never miss the sunrise and the colours that come before the sun actually rises!

We've had to come back more than once because it's an absolutely breathtaking view that you have to see at least once on your trip to Bali. The best part is really that while everyone at the top of Mount Batur just hiked for 3 hours to see the same sunrise and now has to hike for another 3 to get back down, you get to have a coffee and pastry and relax! (or whatever you like, they have a full menu! But the pastries are pretty good)

Pro Tip: the pastries are pretty rich and sweet, you could share one with someone and that would be enough.

The first couple of times we came to Kintamani to watch the sunrise, we drove there from The Canggu Area, just checking on maps how long it would take to get there in time for about 30 minutes before the sun rises, as that's when the colours are the most beautiful - sunrise time varies slightly throughout the year between 5:50AM and 6:35AM - however, you do have to wake up in the middle of the night to do that, so some people stay close-by, and there's a lot of good options for this, notably Toteme Glamping which we stayed at recently and loved it! There's also enough to see in Kintamani to stay a bit longer than just to watch the sunrise, so it's worth it!

If you just came for the sunrise and want to continue the adventure day before heading back to The Canggu area / Ubud, we recommend checking out Nungnung Waterfall after this!
