Ancient Imperial Structure in Rome

Message from Francesco Meola

The Porticus Octaviae, located near the Circus Flaminius in Rome, is a magnificent ancient structure dating back to the imperial periods. Built by Augustus and rededicated to his sister Octavia Minor sometime after 27 BC, it features two temples to Juno Regina (north) and Jupiter Stator (south), as well as a library. Throughout its storied history, the portico has seen restorations by Domitian and Septimius Severus and Caracalla, and was used as a fish market from the medieval period to the end of the 19th century. The structure was adored with foreign marble and contained many famous works of art, making it an exciting historical site to explore on a visit to Rome!

Nowadays, it's at the center of the Jewish Quarter in Rome and in Via Portico d'Ottavia you can find many delicious restaurants. Perfect area also for a night out in Rome.
