The hike to Hustinden, one of the lesser-known peaks in the Lofoten Islands, is a hidden gem offering tranquility and stunning views. Starting near the Glashytta and Vikten Beach, this trail is ideal for hikers seeking a quieter, unspoiled route with incredible 360-degree vistas.
Starting point: To reach the starting point, follow the E10 and turn onto the FV804 towards Vikten. Along this road, there are several roadside parking bays. The closest one to the trailhead is at (Google maps) coordinates 68.138125, 13.310976. From here, the hike begins.
Route: The trail starts on a private farm track that leads to a drinking water reservoir. Passing through a gate, the path continues along the left side of the lake on a visible footpath. While there are no signs or trail markings, the well-trodden path is relatively easy to follow. As the route ascends slightly to the left, you'll enjoy scenic views of the reservoir, the sea, and—if you're hiking in summer—the midnight sun. The trail then crosses a grassy hill before becoming steeper. At this point, hikers will need to rely on their footing as the terrain becomes more challenging. Hustinden’s summit offers a 360-degree panorama, including views of the neighboring Stornappstinden, the village of Flakstad, and the vast ocean beyond.
