Flakstadtind is a modest yet rewarding peak overlooking Skagsanden Beach and the village of Flakstad. While it offers a steep and rocky appearance, the trail is relatively straightforward, making it one of the more accessible hikes on the Lofoten Islands. The path is well-worn, offering breathtaking views of beaches, mountains, and fjords without heavy tourist traffic. Expect a quiet trail often frequented by locals
Starting point: The trail begins at a small pullout on the E10, near the powerlines and opposite Flakstad Church. Limited parking accommodates 2-3 cars (Google Maps coordinates: 68.102740, 13.303971). Additional parking is available at Skagsanden Beach, a short walk away (Google Maps coordinates: 68.103821, 13.283875).
Route: Enter the gate you see from the parking area and follow the trail on the right-hand side of the stream. The gentle climb offers a chance to enjoy the surroundings before the more demanding sections. Passing through the plateau, the trail skirts the base of the mountain, curving westward. At the shelter, the path transitions to a steep climb up Flakstadtind's slopes.
Here, you'll encounter a mix of loose rocks and uneven terrain. Care is required as the trail ascends sharply, with one exposed traverse near the summit adding a touch of excitement. The trail remains clear despite these challenges, eventually leading to the summit's rocky peak. The final effort is well-rewarded with views stretching across Lofoten’s dramatic coastline and serene beaches.
Difficulty according to Norwegian standards: Blue = medium; hikes suitable for moderately trained hikers with basic hiking knowledge and some experience in the terrain.
