The hike to Moltinden, near Ramberg on Flakstadøya, offers a perfect mix of adventure and tranquility. Starting with a short, steep climb to Nubben, the trail takes you through wild, grassy slopes, rocky terrain, and finally to a rewarding summit. At the top, you’ll enjoy stunning panoramic views of the Norwegian Sea, nearby bays, and the surrounding mountain peaks, all in peaceful solitude. This lesser-known gem promises an authentic Lofoten hiking experience, away from the crowds

Starting point: To find the trailhead, head to Ramberg and park in the lot at the Bunnpris supermarket (Google Maps coordinates: 68.089272, 13.227570). Cross the E10 road, and follow the small road to the left of the yellow house nearby. This path leads toward a large, round storage tank visible on the hillside. Once you approach the top of the road near the tank, look for a wooden signpost indicating the hiking trail (“tursti”). The path starts right behind the tank and quickly begins to climb.

Route: The hike kicks off with a steep but well-defined climb up the hillside, taking you to Nubben, a small rocky viewpoint that’s a great place to pause and take in the scenery. From here, the terrain becomes more rugged and wild, with grassy slopes and occasional rocky patches as you make your way to the northern ridge of Moltinden. The trail can fade in spots, but as long as you continue heading upward, you’ll stay on track.

As you gain elevation, the grassy hillside transitions into rocky boulder fields, and the climb becomes more challenging but still manageable. Near the summit, the path steepens briefly, requiring careful footing over rocks. To reach the actual summit, you’ll need to navigate a short but exposed scramble over steep stones.

Difficulty according to Norwegian standards: Red = demanding; tours suitable for experienced hikers with good stamina and the necessary hiking equipment such as good mountain boots.

Distance: ≈ 4 km
Elevation gain: ≈ 655 meters up & down
Duration: ≈ 5 hours
