Message from Nicole Carter

Irazú Volcano, situated in Costa Rica's Cordillera Central near the city of Cartago, is an active volcano that stands tall at 11,260 feet. Dubbed “El Coloso” (The Colossus) for its catastrophic eruptions in the past, Irazu is among the highest active volcanoes in Costa Rica. It has five craters with the most famous being The Main Crater and Diego de la Haya crater. From the top, tourists can witness breathtaking vistas of both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. In addition the summit houses several transmitters for television stations in San José.The Irazú volcano is a part of the Irazú Volcano National Park which contains both primary and secondary montane forests. It is home to some exotic wildlife and visitors can catch a glimpse of armadillos, owls, rabbits, Foxes, woodpeckers and hummingbirds.
