Plaça Sant Jaume: Festive Christmas tree and Nativity scene

Message from Annebeth

Welcome to Plaça Sant Jaume! In Roman times, this square was the main square of the city. The forum romanum, the political heart, was located here. The choice of this location was strategic, as it was the highest point of the city at that time. There was also a view of the sea from here. This view is no longer there because the town hall and the Gothic quarter behind it obstruct the view. However, this square is still the political heart of the city, with the town hall on the seaside and opposite it, the executive palace of the Catalan government.

Every year, a life-sized nativity scene is set up on this square, each time different and every year more beautiful than the other. This year, the nativity scene will be there from December 1st. There is also always a large Christmas tree here, traditionally decorated this year.
