If you're around New Plymouth and looking for a free campsite, Lake Rotomanu Freedom Campsite is a solid option. Taranaki's got plenty of free campsites, so you won’t be hurting for options, but this one’s got the bonus of some pretty lakeside views. It does get pretty busy, especially in the mornings when the bathroom line feels like it takes forever, but hey, the ducks are cute and the lake's nice to wake up to. Definitely not a bad spot to lay your head for the night if you're in the area.
