If you’re out exploring the hidden gems of New Zealand, Elliot Bay is a lovely little stop to add to your road trip itinerary. Heads up though the carpark here kindly asks for a gold coin donation ($2) to help with its upkeep, so make sure to carry some loose change when adventuring in this area.

The beach itself is beautiful and has a rugged charm. On the day I visited, the conditions were a bit rough, so I didn’t go for a swim, but it’s still worth stopping by. Whether or not it’s a swimmer’s paradise, you can definitely enjoy a barefoot walk along the sand and soak up some sunshine. If nothing else, it’s a peaceful spot to stretch your legs and take in the coastal vibes before heading to your next destination.
