If anyone ever asks me for a walk to do when they’re staying in Salcombe, this is always high on the recommendation list as the views are so stunning and you get to stop at the beautiful Gara Rock Hotel for lunch or a drink along the way.

Starting from Mill Bay (or Gara Rock if you’d like to do it in reverse), I think this walk shows off the best of South Devon scenery as you’re treated to golden sandy coves, dramatic coastline and lush woodland.

Parking at Mill Bay can be really tricky in the height of the summer, so you might like to start the walk from Salcombe, catch the ferry across to East Portlemouth and walk along to Mill Bay.

If you wish to stop for lunch at Gara Rock, you will need to make a reservation as they’re not so fond of walk ins these days!
