Burrator Reservoir, located on the edge of Dartmoor National Park in Devon, is a must visit if you’re going to Dartmoor in my opinion.

Not only is the reservoir beautiful in itself, but it’s a great starting point for hiking some of the tors in the area like Sheepstor or Leather Tor. At around 5k in circumference, the reservoir is also a great spot for runners and cyclists looking to get a bit of exercise with a beautiful view.

The area does also provide something for the history buffs who would enjoy exploring the ruins of abandoned farms, there is evidence of tin working, and even a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Don't forget to visit the Discovery Centre to learn about the reservoir's construction and the fascinating history of the area.

Keep an eye out for Dartmoor's iconic ponies and a variety of wildlife, including nuthatches, robins, and Horeshoe bats.

In terms of parking, there are many little car parking areas dotted around the reservoir so just follow the road around and see where you prefer.
