Park passes are required for entry into Canada’s national (or provincial) parks, including those in Canadian Rockies. Since there are several parks in the region as well as different passes to choose from, it can be a bit confusing to determine which one is the right one for you, so let's explain that:

National Park Passes

Rockies have 5 national parks: Banff, Jasper, Yoho, Kootenay and Waterton Lakes. To visit these iconic parks, a National Park Pass is required. These passes are managed by Parks Canada and are available in following types:

  1. Day Pass - ideal for short visits, the day pass provides entry into Banff, Jasper, Kootenay, Yoho, Mount Revelstoke, Glacier, Waterton Lakes and Elk Island national parks for one day. Available for adult, senior or family/group (up to 7 people in one vehicle).

  2. Parks Canada Discovery Pass - provides unlimited admission for a full year at over 80 Parks Canada national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas. Available for adult, senior or family/group (up to 7 people in one vehicle). Often, for groups visiting for longer than six or seven days, it is more affordable to purchase an annual Discovery Pass

Where can I purchase my pass?

Park Passes can be purchased online, at the park gates or at visitor centers.

Kananaskis Conservation Pass

Kananaskis Country is a provincial park, therefore isn't included in the national park pass system. You'll need a Kananaskis Conservation Pass instead:

  1. Day pass - one day entry for one vehicle

  2. Yearly pass - annual entry for up to 3 vehicles

Where can I purchase Kananaskis Conservation Pass?

Online or at Kananaskis Visitor Information Centres.
