bericht van Kieran - Exploring Scotland

Rattray Head Lighthouse, built in 1895 by engineer David Alan Stevenson, stands tall at 120 feet above the rock. It was the first to feature a siren fog signal, adding a new twist to lighthouse design. Over the years, it has seen changes like becoming fully automatic in 1982 and getting a mains electricity supply in 1977. Despite a World War II bombing incident, this historic beacon continues to guide ships with its flashing white light every 30 seconds, visible up to 18 nautical miles away.
