This spot is a true hidden gem in the Cowichan Valley, near Duncan/Maple Bay.
This is Stonehill Farm, an abandoned 130-acre property with a decently solid (albeit trashed) mansion, indoor swimming pool, multiple outbuildings, and the best part, a gorgeous waterfall!
Set aside an hour to explore the home inside and out and to find the secret waterfall.
Directions:
Coming from the Trans-Canada Highway, turn east onto Trunk Road.
Follow Trunk Road for about five minutes.
Turn left at the roundabout onto Maple Bay Road.
Stay on Maple Bay Road for a couple minutes and then turn right onto Stonehouse Way.
Then turn left at the stop sign onto Donnay Drive.
Follow Donnay Drive until it ends at a t-juction.
You will see a very clear path begins at the end of Donnay Drive.
Please note that this is a residential area. We suggest parking on a side street rather than right in front of the path.
Begin hiking down the path for about 5 minutes.
Once you reach the duck pond, turn right. You will see the mansion in the distance.
Once you are at the mansion, you will find a short stone wall with an opening. Go through there to find the waterfall.
Follow the creek and the sound of water. There are also a few waterfall signs up pointing you in the right direction.
Enjoy this local gem! It's a great spot for photos and videos.
Please make sure to respect the home, the land and the neighbours.
