• Both a permit and an accompanying guide are required for this hike. All the canyon and its access roads are on land of the Hopi Reservation, and the tribe have in recent years become concerned at the increasing number of backcountry visitors. Guides can be arranged via the tribal government center in Kykotsmovi Village, or the Hopi Cultural Center near Shungopavi.   • Please note that Blue Canyon Road is unpaved and may be rough in certain sections. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended, and 4WD may be necessary, especially after heavy rain.
