5 hidden costs that you may not have budgeted for!
A visa
Tanzania requires you to have a visa if visiting from a number of countries! Check out your government website to see what requirements are needed from your country of residence. For the UK, it cost us roughly £80 ($100) for both of our visas!
Vaccinations and anti-malaria medication
Speak to your Doctor for advice on whether you need any vaccinations or anti-malaria medication for your trip. These could incur additional costs and some of the costs for us here in the UK were hefty! We paid around £100 ($120) for malaria medication for the two of us.
Drinks
It's very common for accommodations to include meals in the booking, but not the cost of drinks.
Tipping
Tipping is not expected in Tanzania, but it is recommended, particularly for your safari guide. Some people choose to tip staff in the accommodation too. See our travel tip on tipping!
New 'safari clothes'!
We would not recommend you buying clothing that has the label 'safari clothes'. Clothes that are deemed 'safari clothes' are so expensive and there is absolutely no need for them! Basic t-shirts, jumpers, shorts and trousers will be just fine! But... you will need to ensure you have clothes that are in neutral tones for your safari. If you already have some, that is perfect!!
